first aid kitemergency kitImportance of Industrial First Aid Kits:

Anybody who has been an employee or an employer in the industrial sector knows the hazards and threats that loom large in the sector as far as health and security is concerned. Perhaps, the industrial sector is one of the most dangerous work areas. This is why most employers or employees cannot overlook the importance or urgency of an industrial first aid kit. Almost all governments across the world have made it mandatory for first aid kits to be easily available to employees of organizations, irrespective of their size, budget or staff constitution. Having first aid kits and emergency supplies for injuries and other problems at the workplace is also beneficial for the employers. This is because of two reasons:

#1. An injury or accident means loss of manpower and considerable loss in the actual output of the company, i.e. profits!

#2. A lot of workers sue the employer as a party that is responsible indirectly, increasing the chances of the employer to face legal trouble if he does not facilitate the usage or availability of emergency kits or first aid supplies.

Emergency supplies and first aid kits today do not cost a fortune, which gives another reason to invest in them. A first aid kit for a dozen-strong taskforce can cost about $50 while a 50-man staff contingent may require a first aid kit worth $250. With such low amount of investment, one can create a secure environment in a factory and be prepared for freak injuries or accidents. An ideal first aid kit for an industrial sector worker should contain some of the basic contents of a medical emergency kit as well as other important first aid supplies. Gloves, masks, gowns, bandages, tapes, gauze, scissors, ointments, wipes, emergency food supplies and emergency lights, etc. should be present in an industrial first aid kit. A first aid kit should be ideally attached to a wall or within an easily accessible cabinet so that in case of an emergency any worker can locate it without difficulty.  Waterproof and watertight containers or bags should contain the emergency supplies and medical first aid kits. This way, you assure the first aid kit to be sturdy enough for use when an actual emergency occurs. First aid kits are available aplenty online, with the latest supplies and medical first aid kit materials being made available through multiple online dealers at subsidized prices. The price also reduces when bought in bulk, especially, for corporations that have several industrial branches around. Therefore, it is advisable to have an industrial first aid kit at hand while at work – both for the employee as well as for the employer!

All of that planning will do you no good if do not practive good emergency supplies storage. If your house’s heating system goes out on the coldest night of the year and you can’t find your solar blankets and sleeping bags, then all that pre-planning is wasted. It is absolutely imperative that you mark all of your emergency supplies and make sure they are portable and ready to go for anyone in your household who needs to use them.

The following tips for emergency supplies storage ideas should help you get it all under control. First let’s consider your trauma kits and first aid kits. Hopefully when you purchased them they came with a case or backpack style container to hold all of the various bandages and creams and splints and other supplies. However, if you purchased your medical supplies separately, it is important that you purchase a case to hold them all in one central, easy to find location.

Backpacks and plastic art supply cases are perfect for holding all of your first aid needs. Remember to label your supplies so there is no confusion when they are needed. You may want to consider a heavy duty rubber 55 gallon tote on wheels as the ideal emergency supplies storage ideas. Use backpacks and duffle style roll bags to parcel out supplies by category. Another good idea is use a five gallon bucket with a lid.

For those leading a faster paced life, personal safety and personal security is a serious matter to think upon.  A threatening situation or a criminal act can victimize you or your family members anywhere and anytime, but risks can be reduced by assuming more responsibility for your own security.  Personal safety and security is applicable in almost every aspect of normal life.  There are different forms of personal security including residential security, security while traveling, security measures for children, surveillance and deterring or repulsing an assault.

Residential Security: Let’s begin and cover residential security which is a major cause of concern.  Below is a guideine that should be followed, which includes:

- While you move out, check that all entrances including the service doors and gates are properly closed and have quality locks installed with deadbolts.

- Make sure that while leaving, the front door, rear entrance, service doors, garage doors, gate, patio entrance, entrance to the swimming pool, sliding glass door and the guest house doors are all shut and locked properly.

- Provide an extra key to a close neighbor and try keeping the doors shut even when you are with your family members inside the house.

Essential Emergency Suppliesemergency supplies

For many people, it’s difficult deciding what kind of emergency kits to purchase. After all, there are so many options available, and you have the added pressure of knowing the safety of your family very well may depend on the quality of the products that you choose. With that in mind, make sure that you have the following items at your immediate disposal.

For one, always make sure you have access to clean, safe drinking water. This is perhaps the most important factor in staying healthy and safe. In a similar vein, you also want a store of non-perishable food. In your emergency supplies, don’t forget to also include a light source such as matches, lighters, or candles. You’ll also want to be stocked with a high quality first aid kit in case anyone sustains injuries during the disaster.

powerinverter.jpgI think a great tool to have around is a auto power inverter that plugs into your car’s cigarette adapter.  You can run a couple of  lights or a refrigerator.  I use mine when I travel to charge my laptop computer and other accessories.  Also, the power inverter works to power simple electrical hand tools.   You’ll get lots of use out of this tool.

emergency generatorI agree.  All good stuff.  Many people do not realize or consider the importance of emergency preparaedness or food storage to be a part of their financial plan, but it is.  Being prepared to financially handle whatever life throws at you makes emergency preparedness and aquiring emergency tools a good investment, like life insurance.  I could probable keep my family of 5 fed for about 6 months. I still need to get a emergency backup generator since we live in the country and are on a well, so no power, no water.  I was also glad to see the discussion on keeping some extra cash at home. Imagine a day if there was no natural disaster to be found, but your credit cards don’t work.  That’s why I would say keep a $1,000 of cash on hand just for emergencies.  Finally your emergency plan will be ever evolving as member of your family mature and health conditions change.

Emergency backpack kitMany people choose to use backpacks for each family member to carry.  In addition to each person’s personal items, other family items, and things for baby or small child are dispersed amongst each person’s load. Other options might include suitcases, plastic storage boxes, or my favorite 5 gallon plastic buckets with a lid.   Backpacks are easy to grab and go in a hurry and can be hung in a closet near the front door or closet.  Five gallon bucket are fairly easy to move and if they have a lid are water tight.  Some people like to store their emergency kits in their car, which has an advantage if you cannot get to your home or have to evacuate in a house fire, but the emergency supplies are often subject to tempurature extremes, which can damage your supplies.  There are many different things that can be stored in a emergency kit and your kit can range anywhere from backpack sized to much, much larger.  How extensive do you want your kit to be? Would you like to include items for camping out, like a tent, bucket toilet, and sleeping bags, or do you want few items that you can carry on your back in case of an emergency?   You should come up with a list of what you ultimately want in your emergency kits. Then you can buy a standard emergency kit as most kits are about the same and add the items you need for your personal situation.  Thereafter, update your checklist and supplies every six months.  You will soon have a emergency kit for your unique personal needs that will also be great for traveling.

First aid or primary protection is directly related with being protected against social, physical, financial, emotional, occupational, psychological or other consequences that can bring a major physical injury. This is also related to the way of being protected against any grave situation or something that causes an emotional loss. Emergency may arise anywhere or at anytime out of nowhere and when you least expect it. There are different kinds of safety; home safety may be defined by the ability to protect the residents against external harm. Another major form of safety can be defined asy marine safety.

Special preventive measures are required to be followed when you are on a marine trip. Marine safety is related to using or following complete life-saving systems for all levels of marine activity; beginning from offshore platforms and passenger ships to cargo ships, sea expeditions, commercial fishing and boating. The negligence in such activities may lead to disastrous problems, including a threat to life.

There are different types of marine safety products available some are discussed as below:

Bunker Gear: these are fire protection clothing. Though it is mainly used by the fire fighters when fighting against odds at sea, it can also be used by an individual at sea. The light weight fabric is easy to store and comfortable to wear. The protective sleeves of the bunker gear ensure high flexibility at gravest of situations. Also the pre-bent knees protect the fire fighters from getting scraped or burnt.

Immersion Suit: the immersion suits are the best to be used to prevent getting drowned. It can be worn by both – those working in or near water bodies as well as by those who are on sea trips. It is best to be used where there is a danger of accidental drowning. The immersion suit removes the risk of ‘cold shock’ or hypothermia.

Inflatable Rescue Boats: the inflatable rescue boats are especially designed to be used in case of an emergency. It can be used for all forms of surfing rescues, retrieval and service. These boats are generally made of rubber with 4 inflatable tubes, 2 side tubes along with a bow tube and keelson tube. The flexibility of the inflatable boats makes it a necessary sea disaster supplies item.

Life Raft: often a life raft acts as hope for last chance of survival. It makes for another important emergency supplies item to included in marine safety kit. At the time of rough seas, the elasticity and the flexibility of the life raft makes it usable against immersion threats while still at sea.

Soft body armor: maritime crime and piracy is rapidly increasing causing threat to even the innocent tourists at sea. In the last decade itself, around 4 million people have been killed by lightweight weapons. As a prevention against such threats, soft body armor makes an important equipment to be kept in the sea disaster kits.

Since marine safety is in your hands, keeping a few marine safety supplies on your boat is important during maritime activities to stay safe and secure.

Outdoor First Aid KitMy husband and boys are very active outdoorsmens.  They do a lot of fishing and hunting and have minor injuries from time to time.  Nevertheless, I found this great little roll up outdoor first aid kit that, is perfect for what they do. The kit can go in the truck glove box and/or the fishing boat glove box.   I actually bought 3 of them, one for my husband and one for each son, since they were only $30.00 each.  One ended up in the truck glove box and the boys put their’s in their fishing tackel box.   They liked the kits because they were not big and bulky.  I feel better about the situation and they really appreciated the gift.

Saving Your Furry Friends

Dogs and cats are gifted with heightened powers of perception – they can often sense an approaching natural disaster by gauging changes in air pressure. This can be useful up until it comes time to evacuate a dangerous area. At that point, however, most people are focused on the wellbeing of children and elderly people. Dogs and cats become lost in the shuffle. Pet safety products help alleviate this problem.

A pet safety vest wraps securely around a cat or dog’s body, marking the animal in an easily identifiable bright orange. Homeowners can keep one eye on the pet’s movements and another on the secure transfer of valuables out of the house. These vests are especially handy when there’s no leash readily available.
